Media Pilot Updates

Release 2.2 - BETA

Group Sharing of Logging Layouts

The Interactive Logger will now present layouts created by other users in your Group. You may select these and add to them however you are only able to delete the buttons you have created.

Refresh on Media Data tabs

When browsing the media tabs, an extra refresh button is available in the top-right corner. Clicking on this button will refresh the contents of the tab currently displayed. This is to allow users a quick way to update the media data should it be updated by another user or browser.

New Standard Field - Genre

A new media field has been added to the General tab for entering any Genre information. Previously users had to create a meta-field to store Genre, however due to feedback we now consider Genre to be a standard field for media. This new field is now searched independently from other meta-data.

Simplified CSS Style Sheets

Skinning MediaPilot is now easier as we have vastly simplified the construction of the default style sheets (default.css & publish.css).

All styles are now bound to areas of the MediaPilot window and not to specific tags. Editing the style sheets is simply a matter of copying default.css to a new file, giving it a new name and editing it accordingly. As always, we suggest creating a new folder under \mediapilot\resource specifically for each new stlye sheet's graphic elements. The contents of \mediapilot\common\ should never be altered.

Download Logging Data as CSV file

The Logging tab of the Media browser now presents a link to obtain the currently displayed Logging segments in a CSV (comma separated values) file. This file can be loaded in any text editor or spreadsheet such as MS Excel.

Download Search Results as XML

At the bottom of every search results page is a link to enable the downloading of ALL results in the search to XML. This ignores any display grouping so there may be more items included in the XML than are displayed on the result page. This data can be obtained as a file by right-clicking on the link and selecting "Save Link as" in your browser menu.

Editable Logging Entries

All segments logged in either the Media Logging tab or in the Interactive Logger can now be directly edited by clicking on the descriptive text of the entry. This will open a pop-up window and allow the In and Out points as well as the descriptive text to be edited. This option is only available to users with Edit rights on the Media.

IMDb Integration

MediaPilot can now use the IMDb web service in order to search for consistent meta data for Movies and TV Episodes stored in the database. An additional field is now available in the Media's General tab to store the IMDb Reference ID.

An additional search icon is displayed next to the IMDb ID field (when IMDb is available). Clicking on this icon will invoke behavior depending on the existence of an IMDb ID in the field.

  • Clicking on the IMDb icon when no ID is present in the field will conduct a search according to the media's title and episode data. If a match is found, it can be bound to the MeidaPilot media item by clicking the Apply button.
  • Clicking on the IMDb icon when a valid ID is present will display known meta-data for the item and allow some data to be copied to the MediaPilot database.

Separate Streaming Server

MediaPilot can now support having a separate Server running Windows Media Services.

Applying Updates

MediaPilot can be updated by downloading the following files:

Follow the steps below to apply the upgrade:

  1. Make a backup of your current mediapilot site folder (usually C:\inetpub\wwwroot\mediapilot).
  2. Execute the downloaded SQL Update file mediapilot.sql (contained in MediaPilot_SQL.zip). There is only every 1 SQL file for MediaPilot. This script has been designed to create new MediaPilot databases and to update existing ones to the latest version. Simply double-click on mediapilot.sql (on the server). This will launch MS-SQL Server Management Studio. Connect using Windows Authentication when prompted and the click on the Execute toolbar button. Any update message will appear. Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio can then be closed.
  3. Unzip the contents of mediapilot_update.zip to a temporary folder. The Web Update package contains updated files for the MediaPilot web site (such as .php files, images, etc).
  4. Copy the extracted contents of mediapilot_update.zip to the live mediapilot web folder. If you have customized any content in your original mediapilot\resource folder, you may need to copy this content back to that folder after the update.
  5. Copy the new License File license.zl (contained in license.zip) to the mediapilot web folder. Ensure that you are replacing the existing file of the same name. Note that the location of the License File may be different. You can check this location by inspecting the php.ini file (usually located in C:\PHP) and looking for the line containing "zend_optimizer.license_path=". Without the updated License File, mediapilot will display a licensing error when the site is accessed using a web browser.
  6. Extract all files from MediaPHP.zip into the PHP Extensions folder. The default location is C:\PHP\ext\
  7. Restart the Windows World Wide Web Publishing Service. Open the Windows Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services.
  8. The MediaPilot web site is now updated and can be used as normal. Some browsers may been to be refreshed (clicking on Refresh) following the update as they may be caching older support files.

As of 2 May 2009 the MediaPilot Control Service 2.2 remains in development. This component is not required to apply the 2.2 web update as previous versions of this component can still be used.
